Learn about Oligodendrocytes

What is a oligodendrocyte?
An olidogendrocyte is a type of glial cell. (1)
Olidodendrocytes are the myelinating cells of the central nervous system. (3)

What do oligodendrocytes do?
wraps around the axons of neurons, making up what is known as the myelin sheath (1)
insulate the axons and help neurons pass electrical signal at incredible speed and over long distances (1)
As an oligodendrocyt ematures, it begins braching. (2)
An oligodendrocyte sends processes out from the soma to make contact with axons. (2)
