What is premenopause?
is broadly defined as the first of four menopause stages.
It begins with puberty, and stops with the first indication of perimenopause. (1)

What happens during premenopause?
During premenopause, women have regular periods guided by the reproductive hormones, and they are able to reproduce (as long as they have no fertility issues).
A mature egg is released from the ovary once a month. (2)
Puberty usually happens in the early teens of a female human.

How long does premenopause last?
Premenopause lasts an average of 30 to 35 years. (1)

Due to monthly fluctuations and women’s sensitivity to them, it is common for premenopausal women to experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms in the week or two leading up to menstruation. (1)
