What is a lead-acid battery?
A lead-acid battery is a type of battery. (1)
What does a lead-acid battery do?
use different types of lead compounds at the two separate electrodes (positive and negative) and an acidic electrolyte – hence “lead acid”. (1)
These types of batteries are not particularly power dense (they take up a lot of space), and they’re not designed to be discharged fully all the time (i.e., only a 50% depth of discharge). However, lead acid batteries have long been used in cars as the primary power source to provide the surge of power necessary to start your gasoline engine. (1)
