What is the lens? 

What does the lens do? 
The lens focuses light toward the back of the eye. (1)
The lens changes shape to help the eye focus on objects close. (1)
The lens is a clear structure about the size and shape of an M&M’s candy. (2)

Where is the lens located? 
The lens is located directly behind the pupil. (1)

What are parts of the lens? 
Small fibers called zonules are attached to the capsule holding the lens, suspending it from the eye wall. (1)
The lens is surrounded by the lens capsule, which is left in place when the lens is removed during cataract surgery. (1)
