How to pin your location

 

You’re at this fabulous camping spot and you want to invite your friends to come join you! How do you send them directions? You could write out turn by turn directions and send it to them. Or, you can let Google Maps do the work for you!

You can send them a URL link that open in Google Maps and allow your friends to have directions straight from their current location.

How do you send them a URL link? First we need to get a URL link.

How to get a URL link for your current location

1. Open the Google Maps app on your phone or tablet.

2. In the bottom right, click My location . The blue dot on the map will move to the location on the map where you are currently located.

3. Use two fingers on the map to zoom in to get a closer view of your location. Your location will be the blue dot on the map.
Note: The blue dot may move on the map for a few seconds as Google Maps determines your exact location. Just wait about a minute until it stops moving. This should be your exact location.

4. Change the view to satellite view to ensure you are in the exact spot.

5. Satellite view will look something like the below of your location.

6. Press and hold on the screen right NEXT to the blue dot. Do NOT click ON the blue dot or you’ll get a different screen. You will see the GPS coordinates in the texbox at the top. We’ll be getting a URL link instead, so continue to step 7.
After you press and hold, then press on the white section that is popped up on the bottom of the screen. The Dropped Pin window.

7. After you press on the lower white window, the below screen will appear. Choose the Share Place option.

8. A list of options from your phone or tablet will be listed. Choose the Copy to Clipboard option.

 

9. A toast message at the bottom of the screen will display after you choose the Copy to clipboard option

 

10. Now you can open your app of choice to share the Google Maps URL link that is saved to the clipboard.

I’ll open Messenger as an example. Click and hold on the textbox, then select Paste.

11. After you select Paste, the Pin from the clipboard will be pasted. Click send to send the link to your friends!
