What is carbachol?
a type of medication used in opthalmology
Carbachol: Carbachol is a cholinergic agent, meaning it acts to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. In ophthalmology, it is used primarily to decrease pressure within the eye and is often used in the treatment of glaucoma. It works by increasing the drainage of aqueous humor (the fluid within the eye), which in turn decreases intraocular pressure. Carbachol is being used to induce miosis, or constriction of the pupil, which can improve near vision by increasing the depth of focus. (1)
