An enterocyte is a type of simple columnar epithelial cell which lines the inner surface of the small intestine and large intestine. (1)

uptakes water
uptakes sugar
uptakes peptide and amino acids
uptakes lipids

resabsorbs unconjugated bile salts
secretes immunoglobulins
